School Choice Week Tips for Teachers: Tip 1

Written by

National School Choice Week (link) will be here before you know it. Are you interested in celebrating alongside thousands of other parents, teachers, students, and organizations across the nation this January dates? We can help!

Today's tip for teachers about getting involved is simple: Show your school pride by having a locker and/or classroom door decorating contest!

Our nation's successful public charter schools are proof that a one-size-fits-all approach to learning isn't always the most effective. In fact, when it comes to providing a solid education for the next generation, public charter schools often find success because they're able to take a different approach that resonates with a particular community.

For this reason, it's critical that public charter schools are celebrated for their differences and carefully examined so that teachers and school leaders can build and grow from the successes of their peers.

That's why AAE highlights outstanding public charter schools across the nation to give you an inside look into the vast array of options available from coast to coast. Just take a look at one such school in Louisiana:

DeVos Named Secretary of Education

Written by

Last week, President Elect Donald Trump had a big announcement to deliver about his education agenda. Four days after meeting with the President Elect, Betsy DeVos, 58, has been named the intended appointee to serve as the next U.S. Secretary of Education. Who is Betsy DeVos you might ask? A high-profile advocate for school choice, Ms. DeVos is chair of the American Federation for Children, a Washington, D.C.-based organization devoted to expanding school of choice options across the country. She also sits on the board of the Foundation for Excellence in Education.
